I’ve started blogs before, and they’ve been utterly without focus and ended up not really going anywhere, and a great big mess. So I do apologise in advance if this falls by the wayside!
The intent of this is not just to document my own weight loss journey (and thus give myself motivation via you lot), but also to inspire others to do the same. As I write this, it’s been nearly six years since our daughter Melody was taken from us. She was born a preemie, but by god she fought. Most babies born so early struggle to breathe and are on a full ventilator. Melody was off that within hours! For reasons that I won’t go into here she died, and we were left without our first daughter together. During the five weeks she was alive, however, she had been in SCIBU the whole time, and living in another town we had lived on takeaways and whatever chocolates and such we could get from the shop. My weight hit 151kg (332lbs), so I resolved to do something about it. When I look back, I realise that maybe it was a way to grieve, I’m not sure. I managed to get myself down to 113kg (249lbs), just before our second daughter was born.
Four years later, and I’m nearly back up to that hideous 151 number. A couple of months ago, I started fitness challenges, most notably planks and push-ups. I documented them, posting daily on Instagram, until a nasty leg ulcer stopped things.
My wife is a big blogger, a professional even. She’s been pushing me to start a blog, get writing. So here we are! With my own domain as well!
My goals, such as they are, include losing at least 30/40kg (66/88lbs) by a year’s time. I know that it’s possible to do more, but that’s my MAIN aim, more weight after that is a bonus. I’d love to be able to get into Medium/Large clothes by then as well. Of course, I’d love to look great for my wife, so she can go “Damn!” when she looks at me.
On top of that, there are also the health concerns. Being as big as I am (and I AM currently considered morbidly obese), there are a tonne of things to consider: heart problems, varicose veins, at greater risk for DVTs (cheers Dad), as well as breathing issues, fitness, not to mention Diabetes and all the crap that goes with that. I’m on the border with that last one, have regular blood tests which all come back negative, even my cholesterol levels are normal (I don’t know how). Let’s bloody keep it that way!
So join me, subscribe, follow, and keep tabs on my Instagram for more!
Watch the journey as we shave the fat off this Wookiee (and build some muscle hopefully).
PS I’d really love to be able to fit into a Superman costume and look the part (muscles/thin).
PPS I hate burpees.
PPS Sorry for the hashtags….
