Week Eight: Birthday Week!
So it was my birthday this week this Friday just gone! Whoop! 33 years of age! I had an impressive haul of pressies: a lot of fitness stuff! My wife got me the Kilted Yoga book, which looks both hilarious and brilliant and may actually get me into Yoga.
I also received a year’s subscription to Men’s Fitness; an EZ curl bar (which you can see in use far below); a bundle of Graze health snacks; and Joe Wicks’ latest weight-loss book!!!! Anyone would think I was into fitness or something!!
(Plus, I did get some chocolate, XBOX games, a massive glass stein, and money which bought Spiderman: Homecoming and Eureka Season 2!!)
So not a bad birthday haul, eh?
Some other news, not fitness related, my wife’s flash fiction series on her own blog is continuing apace, including one she did for my Fall of Terra series, detailing the destruction of Earth in the far future. It was a brilliant story, and well written, and she’s had several people pushing her to carry on the story.
Anyway, I’ve continued on the planks habit. Not sure how many days that is in a row now (I should probably work it out). After all, they say it takes anywhere between 21 and 66 days to form a habit. I’m still using the awesome yoga mat, which is still helping me a great deal!
My birthday present, the EZ curl bar, has been a godsend. It’s helped me with the form of curls and working the back and shoulder muscles. Admittedly, I haven’t had a lot of weight on it, but baby steps, right? I’ve got to get the form right before I can go to town, so to speak! I’ve had a little training for getting deadlift right. I should really have written it down, but I can easily look it up to remind myself!
140.8kg!!!! Woohoo, that’s nearly 6kg lost altogether so far. Here’s to keeping it going, although not so sure after my birthday chocolate.
DID YOU KNOW?
The deadlift in its current form as an exercise dates back to the ancient tales of Samson and Hercules, or Milo of Crete. It is considered one of the fundamental exercises when using weights.
